Elizabeth Benton and Charmaine Weston Join Maryland Humanities Board of Directors
(Baltimore, MD) – Maryland Humanities is delighted to welcome Elizabeth Benton and Charmaine Weston to the organization's Board of Directors. Benton resides in Bethesda and Weston lives in Frederick: both work at Montgomery College.

Elizabeth Benton (she/her) serves as the Dean of English and Reading at Montgomery College. Her career has focused on secondary education, community college teaching and leadership, and graduate teaching in qualitative methods. Benton has a Ph.D. from The George Washington University Graduate School of Education and Human Development, as well as an M.A. in English Education from Columbia Teachers College.

“Joining Maryland Humanities allows me to unite my passions for the humanities, service, reading, writing, and equity,” Benton says. “I am honored to work alongside dedicated colleagues who actively contribute to our community. Together, our combined efforts can make a meaningful impact for the people of Maryland and beyond.”
Charmaine Weston (she/her) has been an English Professor at Montgomery College since 2007: she currently chairs the school's English and Reading Department. Beyond Montgomery College, Weston has judged local creative writing contests and served as adjunct faculty in Pennsylvania and South Carolina. She earned an Ed.D. in Leadership & Learning from Vanderbilt University, her M.F.A. in Creative Writing from Seton Hill University, and her M.A. in English and Book Publishing from Rosemont College.
